Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) Site Visit - New Delhi and Bengaluru, India
On September 16-23, 2023, IACP conducted a site visit to New Delhi and Bengaluru, India to meet with key stakeholders and provide introductions to BIGRS partner, Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP). In Bengaluru, IACP launched an online, web-based, self-paced basic road safety training with an emphasis on speed enforcement to 4,500 officers of the Bengaluru Traffic Police. There is a potential to reach 10,000 officers of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Region with the training.
Dominican Republic Delegation Visit
On September 14, 2023, a group of ten government and police officials from the Dominican Republic visited IACP headquarters through the Meridian Center Strengthening Law Enforcement Public Relations and Community Outreach project funded by the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program. While at IACP, the group heard presentations from IACP staff who discussed IACP's global and domestic work around the topics of community-police engagement and community outreach.
Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) - Road Safety Exchange Program
IACP conducted a road safety exchange program in Argentina on September 11-15, 2023. During the exchange program, four traffic agents from Buenos Aires and four traffic inspectors from Córdoba observed enforcement operations and visited facilities in each city to discuss promising practices, lessons learned, and methods to improve daily operations with the goal of enhancing road safety efforts to reduce fatalities and injuries in the respective cities.
Quito Pilot Training
In July 2023, IACP delivered a four-week hybrid virtual and in-person training on officer wellness, strategies for occupational and personal success, and technical aspects of road safety to a group of 43 supervisory agents of the Agencia Metropolitana de Tránsito (AMT) in Quito, Ecuador.
ASEANAPOL Contact Persons Meeting
From July 10-13, 2023, IACP participated as an Observer in the 13th National Police Organization for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEANAPOL) Contact Persons Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
World Health Organization (WHO) Global Meeting of the Heads of National Road Agencies
IACP staff participated in the World Health Organization (WHO): Global Meeting of the Heads of Road Agencies. The meeting was the first in-person convening of heads of road agencies from 100 countries including dozens of national police executives and interior ministers among road safety/transportation agency executive leaders. The meeting identified additional opportunities for the IACP to connect in the area of road policing and professional policing development in the Western Pacific, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.
Vision Zero Conference
IACP staff participated in the Vision Zero Conference on June 26-27, 2023. The meeting included representatives of cities the IACP is working with in Latin America through BIGRS. The focus of the meeting was a broad contextual reference of the Vision Zero initiative and defining steps to take it to the next level as the initiative approaches it’s 30th anniversary in 2027.
IACP’s Cultural Transformation Roundtable
IACP held a roundtable in Valletta, Malta on Cultural Transformation on June 19-23, 2023.The meeting, hosted by the Malta Police Force and sponsored by Axon and Niche Technology, brought together police leaders from 11 police agencies in 9 countries who discussed promising practices and challenges associated with improving culture and building trust. The event allowed participants to share their perspectives on how police leaders can deploy transformational leadership strategies to lead culture change in police organizations to strengthen public trust.
Armenia Delegation Visit
On June 7, 2023, a group of five government officials from Armenia visited IACP headquarters through the Meridian Center’s Strengthening Law Enforcement Public Relations and Community Outreach project funded by the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) Site Visit - Mexico City
IACP’s Global Policing team conducted a site visit to Mexico City, Mexico as part of the BIGRS Initiative on June 9-13, 2023. Priorities for the site visit included observing traffic enforcement operations conducted by the Secretary of Citizen Security’s (SSC) DUI Unit, motorcycle education operations conducted by the Secretary of Mobility of Mexico City’s (SEMOVI) motorcycle school, and several meetings with traffic authorities.
