The International Association of Chiefs of Police is tracking federal legislation in the 119th Congress that could impact the policing profession. Please find the federal legislative tracker below, along with IACP’s stance on the proposed legislation.

- If viewing on a tablet or smartphone, swipe to the right on the table to find more information and an external link to the official text of the bill.
- Enter keywords into the search bar to search by legislation title, or hover over the respective category to filter by the specific category.
Decoding the Tracker
- Bill -- The bill number and the official title.
- IACP Position -- IACP’s current stance on the bill:
- Support – Supports passage
- Oppose – Opposes passage.
- Under Review – IACP is actively reviewing or is actively engaging with congressional offices, to include offering recommended changes to bill text.
- Bill Text & Summary -- A link to the official bill page. This page includes the full text of the bill, an official summary, and an overview of its key insights.
- Date Introduced -- The date the bill was formally introduced in its chamber.
- Status -- Provides the bill’s current standing in the legislative process, including whether it has been introduced, referred to committee, reported out, passed by one or both chambers, or signed into law.
- Number of Sponsors -- The total number of Members of Congress listed on the bill as sponsors at the time of the most recent update. Sponsors of the bill support the bill's passage.
- Companion Bill -- A bill introduced in the other chamber (House or Senate) that is substantially similar in content and intended to move in parallel. Related bills are often used to expedite the legislative process by allowing both chambers to consider the measure simultaneously, helping to streamline bicameral review and increase the likelihood of faster passage.
- Issues Area -- Used to organize bills by subject matter and their relevance to IACP’s seven Policy Councils. A bill may be tagged under one or more councils’ areas of focus. Policy Councils provide subject-matter expertise and perspective on tagged issues, but their role is advisory and not a directive.
