National Police Chief’s Council Meeting
On March 20-21, 2024, IACP President Carpenter, and Vice President Walker, and Director Vince Hawkes attended the U.K.'s National Police Chiefs Council meeting in Cardiff, Wales. The IACP delegation was honored to present to the 43 U.K. Chiefs which included representatives from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the London Metropolitan Police, and the National Crime Agency.
Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) Site Visit - Guayquil & Quito, Ecuador
On March 18-22, 2024, IACP conducted a site visit to Quito and Guayaquil, Ecuador to advance the work on the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety. IACP met with the director of the municipal traffic enforcement agency in each city as well as the Director of Road Safety for the Ecuadorian National Police. The purpose of these meetings was to secure continued support for IACP's efforts to strengthen traffic enforcement in the cities.
Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) Site Visit - Buenos Aires & Córdoba, Argentina
On March 18-22, 2024, the IACP conducted the second road safety exchange program for traffic agents in Buenos Aires and Córdoba during a site visit to Argentina conducted through the BIGRS initiative. During the program, participants observed enforcement operations and visited different facilities to discuss good practices, lessons learned, and ways to improve their daily operations enhancing road safety efforts to reduce fatalities and injuries in their cities. During the site visit, the IACP donated two Lidar devices to the Municipal Traffic Police of Córdoba, enabling the traffic inspectors to begin speed enforcement in the city. IACP staff also met with authorities in both cities and delivered training on the importance of traffic enforcement for road safety to city officials in Buenos Aires.
World Regional Office Chair Bi-Annual Meeting
On March 7, 2024, the IACP World Regional Chairs convened in Dubai, UAE to discuss critical policing issues in the seven world regions. The meeting featured remarks from Chief Myron Demkiw of the Toronto Police Service and Commissioner Drew Harris of An Garda Síochána, who spoke to the group about contemporary policing issues facing the department.
World Police Summit 2024
On March 5-7, 2024, the IACP Board of Directors, World Regional Chairs, and Global Policing Staff attended the 2024 World Police Summit in Dubai, UAE. President Carpenter gave a keynote speech on the IACP’s mission to enhance the future of policing, particularly on a global scale. First Vice President Matthew Packard sat on a panel for a leadership discussion on Cooperation Between International Road Policing Alliance (IRPA).
Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) Site Visit - Bogotá & Cali, Colombia
On February 25-29, 2024, the IACP conducted a site visit to Colombia as part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety. IACP visited the cities of Bogotá and Cali to meet with city officials, enforcement directors, and other stakeholders. During the site visit, the IACP team also observed roadside speed enforcement operations and determined how IACP can continue to support the enforcement agencies’ training and technical assistance needs.
Collaborative Exchange Agreement Signing Ceremony – Abu Dubai, UAE
On February 8, 2024, a Collaborative Exchange Agreement was signed by the IACP, the UAE MOI, the Chattanooga Police Department, Collin College Law Enforcement Academy, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Metropolitan Police Department (Washington, D.C.), and the Toronto Police Service. Through the agreement, the five police agencies have committed to share information and resources with the IACP and the UAE MOI, host future groups of Emirati police officials within their respective police academies and assist in the development of future police exchange programs.
Swatting & Hoax Bomb Threat Activity Meeting – Washington, D.C.
On February 1, 2024, IACP staff attended the Swatting & Hoax Bomb Threat Activity Meeting hosted by the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) and the Secure Community Network (SCN) in Washington, DC. At the meeting, law enforcement association executive leaders and SMEs discussed operational and policy challenges regarding the alarming rise of swatting and hoax bomb threat activity in the U.S.
