Victim of Crime Act Funding

Victim of Crime Act Funding

There is more funding available for local victim assistance programs. This is particularly important for law enforcement agencies interested in starting up or enhancing their in-house victim services capacity.

VOCA Assistance funds can be used by law enforcement agencies to pay for victim services programs such as specialized and dedicated victim services units or victim advocates. In general, these funds may be used to provide crime victim services that exceed a law enforcement agencies’ normal duties.

Your victim assistance personnel will be able to provide:

  • Point of contact to answer victims’ questions about their case or explain the criminal justice process
  • Assistance in filing crime victims’ compensation claims
  • Crisis counseling and follow up
  • Information and referrals by telephone or in person
  • Criminal justice support and advocacy
  • Personal advocacy

VOCA Assistance funds may not be used by law enforcement agencies to pay for crime scene intervention, questioning of victims and witnesses, the investigation of crime, lobbying or administrative advocacy, perpetrator rehabilitation and counseling, needs assessments, surveys, evaluations, or studies.

Law enforcement agencies interested in learning more about competitive VOCA Assistance funding should contact their state VOCA Assistance Administrator. A complete list of VOCA Assistance Administrators is available to you by using this link: http://navaa.org/state-administrator-directory/
