Many police agencies utilize the National Incident Management System (NIMS) as the primary method to prepare for, respond to, and manage incidents. NIMS is a comprehensive national approach to incident management, applicable at all jurisdictional levels and across functional disciplines. An incident command system may be utilized for any size or type of incident or event to coordinate the efforts of responding agencies and individual as they work to stabilize the incident.
