IACP Statement on New Orleans and New Zealand Attacks

Official Statements

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) is deeply outraged by the terrorist attack in New Orleans, a tragic reminder of the immense challenges police face in safeguarding our communities.

We extend our condolences to the victims, their loved ones, and all affected by this senseless act, including the two New Orleans police officers who were shot while courageously responding to the incident—running toward danger to protect others.

We commend the swift and courageous actions of the New Orleans Police and all first responders, whose professionalism and dedication were instrumental in saving lives and restoring order.

We are also profoundly saddened by the apparent vehicle attack on two officers in New Zealand, which claimed the life of one and seriously injured another. These incidents highlight the grave risks law enforcement officers face daily in their commitment to public safety.

The IACP stands with the communities of New Orleans and New Zealand and remains steadfast in supporting law enforcement agencies worldwide in their mission to prevent violence and protect public safety.
