Statement From IACP President Cynthia Renaud On Recent Line of Duty Deaths

In just the last three days, four officers lost their lives in the line of duty. Tragically, these incidents reflect the rising level of violence and danger faced every day by the police officers on the street. We must put an end to this violence and ensure the safety of our communities and our officers.

As we observe National Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week, and in remembrance of the officers that have fallen this week and to all officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, it is my hope that police leaders, community members and elected officials can commit ourselves to working to do all that we must to protect the lives of the men and women who work tirelessly to protect the innocent, confront crime, and ensure the safety of our communities.

We will always remember and honor the service of, and sacrifice, made by Detective Luca Benedetti, San Luis Obispo Police Department, CA; Deputy Sheriff Samuel Leonard, Concho County Sheriff’s Office, TX; Deputy Sheriff Stephen Jones, Concho County Sheriff’s Office, TX; and Officer Jimmy Inn, Stockton Police Department, CA.
