Edward J. Walsh
General Chair of the Division of Midsize Agencies

Chief Edward Walsh has been with the Taunton Police Department since 1988, having served in various assignments in the department before being selected as Chief in 2010. His previous assignment was as Detective Captain responsible for all departmental investigations. Chief Walsh also currently serves as the Control Chief for the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council’s Drone Unit and the Bicycle Response Team as well as the Director of the Northern Bristol Country Drug Task Force.
Chief Walsh has been a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police since 2006 and currently serves on the Executive Committee as the Midsize Agencies Division General Chair. Chief Walsh previously served as the Vice-Chair of the Division and as the Regional Chair for the Northeast.
Chief Walsh is a lifelong resident of Taunton, despite having served in various locations with the United States Army in both the United States and overseas. Chief Walsh retired from the United States Army Reserve in 2006, having obtained the rank of Sergeant Major. Chief Walsh’s assignments included the Defense Intelligence Agency, Project Northstar, Combined Task Force Fervent Archer, and Military Intelligence instructional duties.
Chief Walsh graduated in 1983 with an Associates Degree from Bristol Community College, a Bachelor's Degree with a dual major in History and Political Science from the University of Massachusetts in 1986. Chief Walsh also has a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College, 1991, a Masters Public Administration from Bridgewater State in 2002, and a Juris Doctor from New England School of Law in 2007. Chief Walsh has completed numerous leadership courses to include Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government’s Senior Executive Program, the Massachusetts Police Leadership Institute, and Federal Bureau of Investigation’s LEEDA Prog ram. criminal justice. Chief Walsh also serves as an adjunct professor of criminal justice.
Chief Walsh is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and United States Supreme Court.
