Officer Samuel Daniels is a model of service-driven leadership in the Chicago Police Department’s 006th District. A first-generation officer raised in a community within his district, Officer Daniels entered policing after a decade in the private sector, seeking a more fulfilling job. He brings both heart and strategy to his work—qualities that have earned him numerous commendations and awards. He consistently demonstrates leadership by meeting the needs of others and empowering and inspiring his peers, understanding the importance of creating an environment where people feel heard, valued, and motivated.  

His leadership was especially critical during the 2023–2024 migrant crisis, when dozens of newly arrived families were housed in police station lobbies. Recognizing the urgency and vulnerability of the situation, Officer Daniels—alongside two fellow officers—took initiative to organize the district’s response. He helped maintain a detailed log of individuals, ensured no one was left sleeping outside, and created a safe, structured environment that prevented the formation of unsafe encampments. He tirelessly strived to ensure the migrants had access to essentials such as clothing, food, and health care. His efforts not only protected lives but preserved the dignity of those in crisis. 

Officer Daniels also exemplifies courage under pressure. In March 2025, he responded to a shooting outside a high school, applied a tourniquet to a wounded student, and secured surveillance footage that helped identify the suspects. His ability to act decisively and compassionately in high-stakes situations defines his approach to policing.
