Sam Zacharias
Constable/Community & Media Relations Officer, Port Moody Police Department, British Columbia
Constable Sam Zacharias is a dynamic and dedicated officer whose passion for community engagement and public service has transformed the Port Moody Police Department’s outreach and visibility. As the youngest community and media relations officer in the department’s 110-year history, he has modernized communications and developed impactful crime prevention initiatives. His leadership has brought new energy to community policing, from organizing Special Olympics fundraisers to creating educational programs for youth and mentoring future officers to partnerships with a local seniors network and the school district.
PC Zacharias showcased his leadership skills when he revitalized the Reserve Constable Program. Once central to the department’s operations, the discontinued program was resurrected through his dedicated work, from developing information sessions to attract recruits to personally instructing them. Under his guidance, the program has flourished.
PC Zacharias has also rebranded the department’s social media presence, using his keen passion for photography and videography to produce compelling content that humanizes law enforcement and builds public trust. His innovative ride-along videos and proactive media strategy have garnered widespread attention and praise. Despite his many responsibilities, he remains active in patrol, implementing the department’s e-bicycle program and supporting traffic safety initiatives.
A graduate of Simon Fraser University with a background in criminology and youth leadership and a city employee in Port Moody since his teens, PC Zacharias is deeply committed to service. His mentorship has inspired the next generation of officers, and his work continues to strengthen the bond between police and the community.
"At its crux, policing is a people-driven profession…service to the community has been and will always be my ethos.”
