Captain Nick Nicholas is redefining what it means to lead in modern policing. As second in command of the Seal Beach Police Department, Capt. Nicholas has championed transparency, innovation, and inclusion across the agency. Since joining the department in 2010, he has served in nearly every role—from beach patrol to SWAT commander to narcotics detective/DEA task force officer—culminating in his promotion to captain in 2023, making him one of the youngest executive command staff members in Southern California. 
 
Capt. Nicholas is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking work in community engagement. In 2020, he launched “The Briefing Room,” a weekly newspaper column that demystifies law enforcement for the public and fosters open dialogue. He also introduced the department’s first police facility dog program, bringing comfort and connection to victims and community members. 
 
A passionate advocate for professional staff development, Capt. Nicholas created a nationally recognized training program for nonsworn personnel, addressing a long-overlooked gap in law enforcement leadership. His efforts have earned him speaking invitations at conferences across the United States and a seat on the board of the Southwest Parking & Transportation Association. As an adjunct professor and dedicated educator and mentor, he is ensuring the next generation of policing professionals are equipped with the knowledge and tools to succeed, regardless of role or rank.  
 
Currently completing his PhD in management, Capt. Nicholas blends academic insight with operational excellence. Whether mentoring new officers or shaping policy as a legislative representative for the California Peace Officers’ Association, he leads with empathy, vision, and purpose.
