At the intersection of science and service stands Captain Engineer Mario Porretto, a trailblazer in forensic automotive engineering and a rising star in European law enforcement. As director of the Central Laboratory for Automotive, Analytics, and Forensics at the Italian National Police’s Road Police Service headquarters in Rome, Capt. Eng. Porretto has redefined how technology supports public safety. 

With a master's degree in mechanical engineering and numerous scientific publications, extensive scientific knowledge, and a passion for innovation, Capt. Eng. Porretto has led groundbreaking initiatives, with achievements ranging from developing a patented system that estimates vehicle speed using engine noise to organizing the INTERPOL 5th Car Forensics Expert Group Meeting, which brought together 191 experts from 65 countries. His leadership has earned international recognition, including ISO 9001 certification for his lab and a seat on INTERPOL’s Car Forensics Expert Group. 

Capt. Eng. Porretto’s rapid rise from lab officer to director in just one year reflects his unmatched dedication, technical brilliance, and collaborative spirit. He has forged partnerships with universities and automotive manufacturers, expanded forensic capabilities across Italy, and is currently pursuing ISO 17025 accreditation to further elevate the lab’s global standing. 

Despite his accomplishments, Capt. Eng. Porretto remains grounded in service. His work is driven by a deep commitment to public order, justice, and community safety, and the belief that technology can be a powerful force for good.
