Sergeant Courtney Morrison exemplifies compassionate, community-centered policing. With over a decade of service at Southern Methodist University Police Department, she has become a cornerstone of trust, safety, and innovation on campus. As the department’s Community Engagement supervisor, Sgt. Morrison has built lasting bridges between law enforcement and the university community. Her leadership in developing outreach programs, facilitating open forums, and fostering student partnerships has transformed the department’s relationship with students, faculty, and staff. In addition, she plays a key role in the Community Advisory Board, working alongside stakeholders to enhance transparently and collaboration.
Beyond engagement, Sgt. Morrison serves as the department’s crime victim liaison, where she advocates for and supports survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, helping them navigate the justice system and access critical services. Her trauma-informed approach ensures victims receive the resources, support, and justice they deserve. She also leads officer development efforts, mentoring young officers and training them in de-escalation and crisis intervention—skills she models daily with empathy and professionalism.
A master peace officer and graduate student in dispute resolution, Sgt. Morrison brings academic rigor to her work, holding certifications in mental health response, family violence investigation, and mediation. Her dedication has earned her multiple commendations, including the 2022 Mark McCullers Employee of the Year award and a recent promotion to sergeant. Driven by a belief that everyone is entitled to a sense of safety, she has had a profound impact on her department and the community.
