Major Corey Mims is redefining what it means to lead with purpose in modern policing. As head of the Community Engagement and Outreach Bureau for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), Major Mims has built a legacy of trust, innovation, and impact. A product of the very community he now serves, Major Mims brings a deeply personal commitment to bridging the gap between law enforcement and the public and fostering open communication and cooperation.  
 
His leadership journey includes pivotal roles in the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force, where he helped dismantle violent criminal networks, and the North District Neighborhood Impact Unit, where he championed problem-oriented policing and proactive crime reduction. He also served on the IMPD Crisis Negotiation Unit, where he demonstrated his strong de-escalation and crisis intervention skills. Now, as major, he has expanded youth outreach through the Police Athletic and Activities League—which was his own first experience with policing—strengthened community partnerships, and implemented programs that address the root causes of crime. 
 
Faced with staffing challenges, Major Mims developed a cross-bureau collaboration model that ensured community events remained fully supported—demonstrating his hallmark blend of strategic thinking and compassion. His work has earned him the IMPD Medal of Valor, Rookie of the Year, and multiple commendations for leadership and service. 
 
Whether mentoring youth, leading crisis negotiations, or building trust block by block, Major Mims is shaping a safer, more connected Indianapolis.
