IACP-Supported Bill to Equip Police Officers with Trauma Kits Signed into Law
The Improving Police Critical Aid for Responding to Emergencies (CARE) Act, has been signed into law as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The CARE Act establishes national standards for police trauma kits and authorizes funding for their purchase through Byrne-JAG funds. It also promotes promising practices related to the training, deployment, and maintenance of trauma kits, with the goal of improving survival outcomes for both officers and citizens.
The IACP recognizes the significant life-saving potential of these tools and supported this legislation when it was introduced in Congress. We are pleased to see the CARE Act enacted into law. Read the joint press release from U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), John Cornyn (R-TX), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Chris Coons (D-DE), and Dick Durbin (D-IL), highlighting passage of the provision and names the IACP among the organizations endorsing the legislation.
