WHEN STOPPING A COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE, AN OFFICER SHOULDNÕT TREAT IT ANY DIFFERENT THAT THEY WOULD A NORMAL TRAFFIC STOP ON A PASSENGER CAR. IF HE SEES SOMETHING ELSE WRONG WITH THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE THAT WOULD WARRANT FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE OFFICER SHOULD PROBABLY CALL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY OFFICER. AN OFFICER SHOULDNÕT BE CONCERNED WITH THE LOGBOOK AND FEELING RESTRAINTS AND REALLY GETTING IN TO THE IN-DEPTH PORTION OF A COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE UNLESS YOUŌVE BEEN PROPERLY TRAINED. ALL STATES HAVE TRAINING THAT LOOKS MORE INTO COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY AND THATÕS QUITE EXTENSIVE TRAINING. YOU KNOW, THE BASIC COURSE IS THE FORTY HOURS COURSE TO LEARN ABOUT LOGBOOKS AND WHAT TO LOOK FOR ON A VEHICLE. OFTEN TIMES WOULD HAPPEN IS OFFICERS WONÕT KNOW WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED FROM THEM UNTIL YOUÕVE ACTUALLY GONE TROUGH THE EXTENSIVE TRAINER AS FAR AS BECOMING A COM-COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTOR. IT IS OFTEN BEST TO STICK TO THE STANDARD DOCUMENTS. A COMMERCIAL DRIVERÕS LICENSE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENT A DRIVER CAN HAVE. MY OPINION IS, THE BEST THING TO DO IS STICK TO JUST ASKING FOR THE LICENSE AND THE REGISTRATION UNLESS YOU KNOW FURTHER. IF YOU WOULD ALL, IF THAT OFFICERÕS SIXTH SENSE IS GOING OFF THAT HE MIGHT THINK SOMETHING IS A MISS, MOST AGENCIES HAS PROTOCOLS SET IN PLACE THAT THE CAN GET A COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTOR TO THEIR STOP LOCATION AS FAR AS GETTING THEM THERE SO THAT THEY WILL HAVE THE TRAINING AND THE KNOWLEDGE TO KNOW WHAT DOCUMENTS THAT ACTUALLY NEED TO BE PRODUCED BY THAT OPERATOR. 4 2
