14th Annual European Police Chiefs Convention
From September 24-25, 2024, IACP leadership attended the 14th Annual European Police Chiefs Convention in The Hague, Netherlands. The event brought together more than 450 delegates from 50 countries and focused on collaborative strategies to combat emerging criminal threats and enhance international cooperation.
Ignition Interlock Device Symposium
On September 24, 2024, IACP staff attended an Ignition Interlock Device Symposium in Washington, DC to discuss the current state of ignition interlock programs and strategize to identify short- and long-term needs for the program designed to prevent alcohol impaired driving.
2024 Alaska Safe Roadway Behavior Symposium
From September 17-19, 2024, IACP staff were in Anchorage, AK to present at the 2024 Alaska Safe Roadway Behavior Symposium and the DRE in-service training.
Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) Site Visit - Bogotá and Cali, Colombia
From September 30-October 4, 2024, the IACP conducted a site visit to Bogotá and Cali, Colombia as part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS). During the site visit, the IACP delivered training on checkpoint enforcement operations to traffic agents from the secretariats of mobility of Bogotá and Cali, Colombia, as well as officers from the Colombian National Police. The IACP also participated in a panel discussion on speed management hosted by the Secretary of Mobility in Bogotá as part of the country's National Road Safety Week.
Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) Site Visit - Buenos Aires and Córdoba, Argentina
From September 16 -20, 2024, the IACP conducted a site visit to Argentina under the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS). The IACP observed checkpoint enforcement operations in Buenos Aires and Córdoba and provided recommendations for improvement. The IACP also met with the Mayor of Córdoba and the Undersecretary of Transit of Buenos Aires to discuss future cooperation.
Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) Site Visit - Guayaquil, Ecuador
From September 8 -12, 2024, the IACP conducted a site visit to the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, as part of the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS). During the site visit, the IACP mentored agents of the Guayaquil Municipal Traffic Agency (ATM) who have completed checkpoint operations training in early August 2024, and participated in meetings with Guayaquil municipal leaders and the Ecuadorian National Police to promote the continued use of road policing enforcement and agent/officer safety.
International Delegation Visit to IACP Headquarters
On August 27, 2024, the IACP hosted a delegation of senior police leaders from Vietnam. The delegation began a 3-week study tour at the IACP and was here to learn how the IACP supports the policing profession and effective practices to combat transnational, cyber, and human trafficking crimes.
BIGRS Regional Training on Data-Driven Road Safety Operations
From August 26-29, 2024, the IACP conducted a regional training in Bogotá, Colombia, under the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS). The training focused on planning data-driven road safety enforcement operations to target speeding and impaired driving offenses. The audience comprised of two representatives from each traffic enforcement agency the IACP works with under BIGRS in Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador. Additionally, the IACP conducted a site visit to Bogotá, Colombia. During the site visit, the IACP delivered training on checkpoint operations to 30 traffic agents from the secretariats of mobility of Bogotá and Cali, Colombia, as well as 10 officers from the Colombian National Police. The IACP also observed DUI and speed checkpoints while in Bogotá and provided recommendations for improvement based on the observations.
IACP/UAE MOI Police Academy Exchange Program
On August 22, 2024, four Emirati officers were enrolled in the Toronto Police College and the Ontario Police College through the IACP/UAE MOI Police Academy Exchange Program. The officers will experience basic constable training in Toronto, Ontario and Aylmer, Ontario over the course of five months. The exchange will culminate with a graduation ceremony in February 2025.
18th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Public Safety Forum
From August 12-16, 2024, the IACP participated in an event in Recife, Brazil, hosted by the Brazilian Forum on Public Safety with support from the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). The event convened over 1,000 Brazilian police officers and public safety officials from across the country to discuss critical and emerging issues in policing. IACP representatives presented on the topics of body worn cameras and police suicide prevention, including sharing IACP reports, policies, and other resources on these topics.
