Enhancing Conviction Integrity through Forensics Webinar - Achieving Justice at Trial: Bloodstain Pattern Analysis and Expert Testimony
SAKI TTA will host a webinar titled, Achieving Justice at Trial: Bloodstain Pattern Evidence and Expert Testimony on June 29th, from 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM ET. This webinar will be presented by Patricia Powers, Attorney Advisors with AEquitas, and Jodi Corsi, Forensic Scientist with the Michigan State Police.
Bloodstain patterns and corresponding evidence can provide investigators and prosecutors with valuable insight into cold and current cases of assault and homicide. This evidence can help criminal justice professionals understand how a crime was perpetrated, and it may also confirm or refute statements of a suspect or witness. It is essential for investigators and prosecutors to consult with a forensic bloodstain pattern analyst, not only to understand the science and its implication but also to place the evidence in the context of the crime scene - and ultimately to help recreate the reality of the crime at trial.
This presentation provides key information about bloodstain pattern analysis, when it can be utilized, its potential for eliciting probative evidence, and best practices for application. Presenters will also discuss how to work with forensic experts to develop a theory of the case and to prepare for trial testimony that will effectively convey scientific information to the jury.
Communicate with a bloodstain pattern expert to determine the presence of blood and potential for analysis at crime scene(s)
Recognize the importance of documentation and analysis of bloodstain pattern evidence and the significance of findings
Prepare with an expert for trial testimony, including anticipated cross-examination and defense expert testimony
Offer effective expert testimony at trial to help recreate the reality of the crime
