Contact Law Enforcement
- Call the law enforcement agency in the community where the identity crime happened. If you are not sure, start with your own local law enforcement agency. Report your situation and request a copy of the report (or at least the report number) to submit to your creditors and others who might want proof of the crime.
- If unable to obtain a report from the local law enforcement agency, seek assistance from your county sheriff or your state attorney general's office.
- Call your local office of the U.S. Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
