International Policing Division

The Executive Committee of the IACP established the International Policing Division, a body consisting of world regions, to promulgate the international programs and activities of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Inc. The International Vice President serves as the General Chair of the Division as well as a member of the IACP Board of Officers. Division Officers include the Division Vice Chair, Division Secretary and the Chairs of seven (7) World Regional Offices.

International Policing Division Steering Committee (IPDSC)

The International Policing Division Steering Committee (IPDSC) is designed to advise the International Vice President and in turn the IACP President on matters which impact the IACP internationally. The Steering Committee has Forty-one (41) positions; Nineteen (19) of which are designated by position, and the other twenty-two are appointed - Among these are sixteen (16) National/Transnational Police Organizations, which affiliate themselves with IACP by taking a seat on the IPDSC. The IPDSC meets at the annual IACP conference and at the international policing conferences.

Advisory Committee to the IPDSC

The Advisory Committee, an international group of IACP members from the Washington DC area, was established to address issues of policy and procedure in support of the International Policing Division Steering Committee, facilitated by their proximity to the necessary resources and materials at the headquarters IACP. The Advisory Committee meets once a quarter, hosted on a rotational basis by individual committee members.

Ad Hoc Committee on International Initiatives (AHCII)

At the August 2002 meeting of the IACP Board of Officers, the President introduced "IACP International", a memorandum suggesting approaches to take in expanding and directing IACP's international program. The document proposed a wide variety of actions that were to serve as the basis for sharpening the focus of the Association's international program and to provide a clear and meaningful roadmap for its efforts over the next five (5) years. It is the charge of this committee to review, evaluate and develop the recommendations presented in the memorandum in consultation with the members of the International Policing Division Steering Committee, and incorporate them in a plan allowing the Association to govern its international operations.

International Conferences

Under the regional conference concept, any of IACP's seven World Regional Offices may provide oversight for regional conferences. Previous international conferences have addressed topics such as terrorism, multi-national policing efforts, the application of community-oriented policing and technological advances in both crime and crime fighting. They also provided the international policing community an ideal forum for networking, exchanging ideas, capitalizing on lessons learned, and furthering professional growth.
