Summer Hard Problem Program (SHARP) 2008 Call for Applications
Dear IACP Members,
Mr. Bart Johnson, a member of the IACP Terrorism Committee and newly appointed as the Director, Homeland Security and Law Enforcement – Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), is providing information concerning the opportunity for IACP members to participate in two critical analytical exercises sponsored by the DNI. Please review the attached letter and obtain additional information via the provided link.
On behalf of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and Dr. Thomas Fingar - Deputy Director for Analysis, we are pleased to announce the Summer Hard Problem Program (SHARP) 2008 Call for Applications. The goal of this intensive four-week study is to engage external (nonCommunity's-government) experts on an intractable problem of significant national security interest and to enhance the Intelligence Community’s ability to collect, analyze, and integrate information relevant to the threat associated with the problem.
Two such sessions will be held during the summer of 2008: Biological Warfare Perpetrators: Rationality, Culture, and Likelihood of Discovery, 15 June - 11 July, in Naples, FL and Cyber Space Spillover: Where Virtual Worlds Get Real, 13 July - 8 August, San Jose, CA. Each session will take place in an area that takes participants away from the demands of their offices. The resulting collaboration, our experience has shown, persists beyond the study period and will strengthen cross-organizational analytic networks.
Please submit your applications per the instructions, no later than 5 March 2008. The turnaround time is short and lead time is required to select attendees and to ensure security clearance information can be confirmed.
Enclosed please find the necessary documents to include a cover letter from Dr. Fingar, course description, along with recommended qualifications for consideration. If you are interested in participating in this program please respond via email as soon as possible so consideration can be given to that nominee.
