IACP President Joseph Estey's statement regarding the Annual Conference and inclement weather
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, some attendees and exhibitors have contacted the IACP and inquired about the IACP's policy in case of severe inclement weather (e.g., a hurricane/tropical storm) in Miami. The conference will convene Saturday, September 24 through Wednesday, September 28, at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Florida.
Following discussions with the Tri-Agency Hosts (Miami Beach, City of Miami, and Miami-Dade), the IACP has determined that the 1112th Annual Conference will be held as scheduled. Our policy has been and remains that the conference is conducted unless and until the association is notified by local governments that for reasons of public safety the conference needs be canceled. IACP will continue to monitor the weather situation and consult with the Tri-Agency Hosts as the situation warrants. If necessary, IACP will forward any updates to the membership via e-mail and also post them the association's website at http://www.theiacp.org for easy accessibility to all.
Please note that at this time the IACP has no indication that severe weather is forecast for Miami area during the annual conference.
While Hurricane Katrina created this concern today, the IACP Annual Conference has faced similar situations in the past and has successfully avoided a negative outcome. That tradition will continue this year.
As always, the annual conference will provide unparalleled opportunities for law enforcement professionals to examine the latest technology and equipment, network with high-ranking officials, attend quality educational workshops, and meet with experts and peers from around the world.
We look forward to seeing all of you in Miami Beach!
