No-cost Weapons of Mass Destruction Executive Level Training at School of Criminal Justice, MSU
Under a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Office of Grants and Training, and in collaboration with the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University, the IACP has developed the curriculum “Leading from the Front: Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness for the Law Enforcement Executive.” From January 2006 to December 2006, this two-day, tuition-free course will be presented in twenty-two locations throughout the country and is open to registrants whose agency is located within 250 miles from the training site.
The training encourages law enforcement executives to engage in forward thinking relative to preparation for and response to a WMD incident, and the course material enhances their knowledge in detecting and deterring acts of terrorism, responding and mitigating the consequences of a WMD attack, and helping determine tools, resources and support systems in the community for planning and responding to WMD incidents and other disasters. Chiefs of police, public safety directors, and/or executive level law enforcement personnel in command staff positions, or those personnel who may be called upon to be incident commanders during a Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) incident or in planning a response to a WMD incident are invited to attend.
Travel expenses and lodging are the responsibility of attendees. Light refreshments are provided in the morning and mid-afternoon. No meals are provided. Complete workshop agenda and participant materials will be available at the registration table on site. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. Workshop begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m. each day, so travel plans should be made accordingly. A pre and post test of participant WMD knowledge is required by the Office of Grants and Training. This is not a pre-requisite for receiving a certificate of attendance, however these certificates are issued only to the participants completing both days of training.
Please note that starting October 1, 2004, this grant is being fully administered by the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University.
All January 2005 classes are full, no registrations are accepted after December 8, 2004.
