Statement from IACP President Donald W. De Lucca on the Attacks on the Officers in Iowa
November 2, 2016
As President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, I join with our entire membership in mourning the loss of the officers from the Urbandale and Des Moines, Iowa, Police Departments that were killed last night in the horrific and cowardly attacks.
As I learned of last night’s events, my heart broke yet again due to another senseless act of violence against police. The brave men and women of law enforcement who put their lives on the line each day, do so to safeguard the citizens they were sworn to protect; to be targeted solely for the uniform we wear is both saddening and infuriating. Law enforcement officers are the backbone of our society and these despicable attacks must be condemned by all.
We grieve with the Urbandale and Des Moines Police Departments and the loved ones and friends of the officers who lost their lives last night and share their commitment to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
We stand ready to assist their agencies in the days and months ahead.
