Statement of IACP President Terrence M. Cunningham on Attack in Bangladesh
Just three days ago, I, along with the IACP membership, were sending our thoughts and prayers to the victims, families, and friends whose lives were devastated by the tragic and senseless attack at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport. Too soon, we are mourning the loss of more lives and those who are seriously wounded by the hostage situation occurring right now in Bangladesh.
As the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and their colleague agencies work to resolve this situation and prevent further tragedy, I want them to know that they have the support of the IACP and the global policing community.
Terrorism and violent extremism are increasingly a growing global threat that will take the efforts and resources of all nations and the law enforcement community.
Again, we hope that this situation gets resolved and those that are responsible for this latest attack are apprehended quickly and held responsible. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those effected; of particular note, two police officers lost their lives today serving their community.
