Statement of IACP President Terrence M. Cunningham on Brussels Attack
As President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), I am sickened and deeply troubled by the tragic events that have taken place in Brussels, Belgium, today. I, along with the membership of the IACP, mourn the lives of those who have perished and hope for the speedy recovery of those who have been wounded in this horrendous attack.
As the Belgium Federal Police and law enforcement and public safety agencies across Belgium and Europe continue to investigate and apprehend those responsible for this latest atrocity, I want the agencies to know that they have the support of the IACP and the global policing community.
Unfortunately, the tragic events in Brussels once again demonstrate the pervasiveness of the threat that radical, violent extremism poses to communities around the world. Successfully overcoming this challenge will require that law enforcement agencies, and the citizens they protect, remain vigilant and work together to safeguard their communities.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those whose lives have been devastated by this tragic and senseless crime.
