Statement of IACP President Richard Beary on DHS Funding
“As President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), I am very concerned by failure of the Congress and the Administration to reach an agreement for funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the potential for a shutdown of DHS activities.
The operations and programs supported by DHS are of vital importance to state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies. Keeping our communities, and our Nation, safe requires the full commitment and participation of the Department of Homeland Security. In addition, the direct support provided by various DHS programs to law enforcement agencies across the nation is essential to their continuing ability to fulfill their mission of protecting the public.
On behalf of the members of the IACP, I urge Congress and the Administration to quickly resolve this issue and fund DHS operations for FY 2015.”
The International Association of Chiefs of Police is the world’s largest association of law enforcement executives. With over 22,000 members in more than 100 countries, the IACP serves as the professional voice of law enforcement. Building on their past success, the IACP addresses cutting edge issues confronting law enforcement through advocacy, programs and research, as well as training and other professional services. IACP is a comprehensive professional organization that supports the law enforcement leaders of today and develops the leaders of tomorrow.
