The IACP and BJA Release Model Policy on Protecting Children During Parental Arrests
The IACP and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice jointly released a Model Policy titled Safeguarding Children of Arrested Parents, which details policy and procedure recommendations and provides an in-depth look at the potential impact of parental arrests on children, whether or not they are at home at the time.
The Model Policy provides guidance to assist law enforcement agencies in developing measures to safeguard children and reduce and prevent unnecessary trauma during the arrest of a parent.
