This one-day training, sponsored by the United States Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), is designed to introduce newly assigned police officers, or those with limited experience with youth, to the fundamental investigative skills, tactics, and procedures that result in an effective interview or interrogation of a juvenile. This course uses interactive exercises to develop skills in analyzing youth behavior, developing rapport, and understanding adolescent behavior. Participants will examine issues that relate to all facets of the interview process, including fact finding and information gathering methods that are appropriate for youth. Participants will learn interrogation techniques to circumvent false or coerced confessions.
