IACP/CISCO Announce Community Policing Award Deadline Extension
Deadline extended: July 9 midnight EST
Alexandria, Va. (June 16, 2010) – The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Community Policing Committee and CISCO has once again extended the entry deadline for its Community Policing Award. Award Winners will be honored at the 2010 IACP Annual Conference in Orlando, FL and will receive free registration, air travel and accommodations. Entries will be accepted until midnight, July 9, 2010.
“We are extremely excited about the online Community Policing Community we have created with CISCO our corporate partner,” said Chief Todd Miller, chairman of the IACP’s Community Policing Committee. “The first phase of this project really is focused on building our individual and agency community membership as well as the Community Policing Award, which is now in its 13th year. As we grow and build awareness around this community, we wanted to extend the opportunity for agencies to register and submit their entries for the 2010 Community Policing Award.”
The IACP’s Community Policing Committee developed the award in 1998 to recognize outstanding community policing initiatives by law enforcement agencies worldwide. To date, nearly 150 agencies—spanning more than 10 countries—have been honored as winners and finalists. In addition to recognizing best practices in Community Policing, for the past seven years, agencies have been recognized for their achievements around homeland security-related community policing. Again this year, the committee encourages agencies with homeland security-related community policing initiatives to submit entries.
Law enforcement agencies and citizens are eligible to nominate candidates in five categories. The categories include agencies serving the following populations: 20,000 or fewer residents; 20,001 to 50,000 residents; 50,001 to 100,000 residents; 100,001 to 250,000 residents; and more than 250,001 residents.
TO APPLY, PLEASE VISIT THE CPA AWARD SITE WWW.IACPCOMMUNITYPOLICING.ORG. If you have questions, please call (804) 556-3133. Winners will be honored at the 2010 IACP Annual Conference in Orlando, FL and will receive free registration, air travel and accommodations.
