Agency-Specific Training Needs

  1. Why do I get voice mail so often when I call the Training Division?
The Training Division has three people assigned who spend much time on the phone or researching questions and consequently away from the desk. Although we realize it is irritating to talk to voice mail, we request you do so, and we will return your call.
  2. I keep getting multiple copies of broadcast faxes announcing upcoming training events. Why?
Broadcast fax announcements are sent to members of the association based upon fax numbers provided on the membership applications. If your department is receiving multiple copies and prefer not to, you can limit the number of copies in one of two ways.
    • First, fax the request to the Training Division at 703-836-4743 advising us which numbers to delete, and we will do so.
    • Second, check the "Junk Mail" block, and you will no longer receive faxes.
  3. The tuition for our training was paid already, but I keep receiving requests for payment. Why?
Usually, the reason is the proper backup paperwork was not included with the payment. If the course and/or the individual are not identified, then we must search accounts receivable to apply the payment. If your department attended multiple training sessions and did not submit backup paperwork, we may have applied the payment to the wrong individual, thereby resulting in repeat billings. Please include backup paperwork, so we can process the paperwork expeditiously.
  4. To save money, I need to make flight reservations early, but someone in the training division advised me not to do so. Why?
We attempt to confirm our classes as early as possible, but that depends upon the number of enrollees. We will always make the final decision a minimum of 21 days in advance. Do not make non-refundable airline reservations for any course until you receive confirmation for that course from the IACP. In the event you have any questions regarding the status of a course, please call 1-800-843-4227 before making your non-refundable airline reservations.
  5. I was enrolled in a course but forced to cancel, and I was advised to submit this in writing. Why?
We make decisions to run the course or cancel the course based upon the number of registrations. We need documentation for the annual audit that we undergo.
  6. My chief is a member, but I am not. Do I pay the member or nonmember rate?
If the chief (sheriff, etc.) is a member, we consider everyone in the department a member for training purposes. You pay the member rate.
  7. Why don't you have training in my geographical area?
We rely on volunteers to cohost our training with us. If no department in your general vicinity chooses to volunteer to act as cohost, then we can't conduct training there. If your department would like to volunteer to cohost, contact Larry Haynes at 1-800-843-4227 ext. 234.
  8. I have identified a specific need for training for my department. Is there anyway I can get the IACP to come to my location and present a class exclusively for my department?
Yes, you can contract with us, and we will have the instructor come to you. Contract training brings the same expert instructors as tuition-based training and saves you the cost of individual travel, lodging, meals, etc.
