Special Guest Speaker for the Foundation Gala!
Retired Chief Warrant Officer Four Michael J. Durant
Master pilot and Inspiration for the movie Black Hawk Down
“An inspirational speaker, Durant illustrates the power of teamwork, leadership, and change through awe-inspiring stories, captivating visuals, and heart-racing accounts of life in the line of fire”
As you begin planning for the 118th Annual IACP Conference in October, make sure your conference schedule includes attendance at the IACP Foundation’s Fifth Annual Fundraising Gala on Saturday, October 22, at the beautiful and historic Hilton Chicago located on the Magnificent Mile.
The Hilton Chicago boasts the stunning and elegant Grand Ballroom which will serve as the backdrop for an evening of thrilling story-telling with special guest speaker, retired Chief Warrant Officer Four Michael J. Durant, Master Pilot and inspiration for the movie Black Hawk Down.
Little did Durant know when he entered the United States Army in 1979 that one day he would be the target of a Somali-fired grenade launcher, a prisoner of war, and the subject of an acclaimed book and major motion picture. The story of Black Hawk Down is a tense one, and Durant talks vividly about his experience as a soldier and as a hostage, and what it has taught him about being an American and a leader. An inspirational speaker, Durant illustrates the power of teamwork, leadership, and change through awe-inspiring stories, captivating visuals, and heart-racing accounts of life in the line of fire.
In addition to this outstanding guest speaker, the Fundraising Gala includes an elegant evening reception and dinner and has become one of the premier events during the conference. During this event, leaders of international, national, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies join with committed corporate supporters and conference attendees to raise funds and to raise awareness of Foundation programs and initiatives.
The gala evening will begin with a hosted reception and white-glove dinner, followed by the special speaking program. Although the entertainment and social aspect of the gala cannot be denied, the real meaning of the event lies in its ability to raise the profile of the IACP Foundation, to highlights its projects and services, and to create an atmosphere where fun and fundraising can truly go hand in hand for a great cause.
Last year’s event in Orlando, combined with the Foundation’s Silent Auction proceeds, raised over $130,000.00, and your purchase of a ticket or a table at the Fifth Annual Fundraising Gala in Chicago will enable the Foundation to continue its mission of funding training and professional development for law enforcement agencies around the globe as well as providing educational support for the families of officers fallen or permanently disabled in the line of duty.
Past speakers and honorees have included former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani; best selling author Joseph Wambaugh; entrepeneur and philanthropist George Heinrichs; blind adventurer Erik Weihenmayer who climbed Mt. Everest; and Craig Floyd, Chairman of the NLEOMF.
Black-tie optional...hosted reception...silent auction...guest speaker... and a wonderful dinner make for a spectacular and lively evening for individual guests and corporate sponsors alike.
Special thanks to Intrado Inc. for their sponsorship of our outstanding guest speaker, Mr. Durant.
