2011 LEIM Conference Overview
The 2011 LEIM Training Conference & Technology Exposition concluded at 5:00pm on June 15, 2011 in San Diego, California. This year’s event was very successful, drawing over 600 attendees from 44 states throughout the nation, as well as representatives from Belgium, Canada, England, Nigeria, and Turks and Caicos.

Plenary Sessions
The conference included plenary sessions addressing Policing in the 21st Century, moderated by Chief Mark Marshall, president of IACP; Information Sharing: The Critical Link between the Federal Government and Local Law Enforcement, presented by Kshemendra Paul, Program Manager, Information Sharing Environment; an Update on the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network, presented by Chief (ret.) Harlin McEwen, Chair of the IACP Communications and Technology Committee; and a panel on Navigating the Complex World of Social Media, moderated by Nancy Kolb, Senior Program Manager, IACP.

Workshops
The 2011 LEIM Conference featured 40 concurrent workshops presented on Tuesday and Wednesday (June 14-15) organized across four functional tracks: Executive, Communications, Operational, and Technical. Workshop topics varied broadly across a host of technologies, policies, and best practices. Technologies included mobile computing, N-DEx, automated license plate recognition, the FBI’s Next Generation Identification Program, information sharing initiatives, project management, CCTV proliferation, facial recognition, and strategic planning, among many others.

Technology Exposition
In addition to plenary sessions and workshops, LEIM Conference attendees also benefited from a robust Technology Exposition, which featured world-class solution providers. The 2011 LEIM Conference included 56 industry-leading solution providers exhibiting at the conference and 20 Sponsors. Working closely with industry partners, the LEIM Conference enabled chiefs, commanders, operational managers, technical support and line staff to explore a broad range of technologies and services that are available to help ensure success in law enforcement technology planning and implementation.

IACP/iXP Awards
Each year IACP and iXP Corporation co-sponsor the Excellence in Technology Award Program, which recognizes superior achievement and innovation in the field of communication and information technology by law enforcement agencies. This international award program is designed to recognize leading practices through solutions that benefit law enforcement as a profession and innovative implementation of common off-the-shelf hardware/software. The IACP/iXP Excellence in Technology Awards were presented during a plenary session on Tuesday, June 14, followed by an iXP-sponsored reception. iPad2 Winner
Mr. Mike Milas, Executive Director, Silicon Valley Regional Interoperability Authority (SVRIA), was the Grand Prize Winner of the iPad 2 sponsored by LEIM. The selection was made from among all conference participants who completed their Passport to Technology by visiting each of the 56 Exhibitors.
