Tools to Improve Your Community’s Awareness and Reporting of Suspicious Activity

Communities are valuable partners in keeping their communities safe from threats of crime and terrorism. Since 2009, IACP has worked to develop community-based strategies and tools to improve the public’s awareness and reporting of suspicious activity.

From this research, two publications were developed:

A Resource Guide to Improve Your Community’s Awareness and Reporting of Suspicious Activity

These publications can support law enforcement efforts happening in numerous communities across the nation, and can also be utilized when implementing national initiatives and strategies, such as the Department of Justice’s Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) Initiative (NSI), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s “If You See Something, Say Something™” campaign, and President Obama’s Strategy for Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States.

Hard copies of the publications can be requested from the FEMA Publication Warehouse by emailing FEMA-Publications-Warehouse@fema.dhs.gov or calling 1-800-480-2520 and requesting publication numbers P-903 (Research Report) and P-904 (Resource Guide).
