National Law Enforcement Leadership Initiative
Project Goal
With support from the Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), the IACP's National Law Enforcement Leadership Initiative (NLELI) proposes to build the leadership capacity of sworn law enforcement executives across the United States on violence against women crimes, strengthening the commitment of law enforcement officers to respond to these crimes, and enhance the ability of communities to respond to victims.
The National Law Enforcement Leadership Institute Series
IACP’s National Law Enforcement Leadership Institute on Violence Against Women is an unprecedented opportunity for law enforcement executives to assess their agency’s current response to crimes of violence against women and identify strategies to improve their ability to meet the needs of the community.
The National Law Enforcement First-Line Supervisor Training on Violence Against Women
The IACP’s National Law Enforcement Supervisor Training on Violence Against Women is an opportunity for individuals who hold primary responsibility for overseeing first responders to explore current approaches for responding to and investigating the crimes of violence against women. The training aims to increase understanding of these crimes, and instill mentoring, training, and leadership skills.
The National Violence Against Women Law Enforcement Trainer Development Program

IACP’s National Violence Against Women Law Enforcement Trainer Development Program offers professionals currently training in this field the opportunity to improve the quality and effectiveness of their efforts to educate law enforcement officers, thereby developing the agency’s response to victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and human trafficking crimes.
Currently, this program has been suspended and applications are no longer being accepted. Please contact Michael Rizzo at Rizzo@theiacp.org with any questions.
IACP's Partnership with the Office on Violence Against Women
In collaboration with the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) of the US Department of Justice, the IACP has developed the National Law Enforcement Leadership Initiative on Violence Against Women. This initiative reflects the continued partnership and shared commitment of IACP and OVW in their efforts to bring crimes of violence against women to the forefront of policing. Over the past several years, the IACP and OVW have collaborated to provide direction and support on numerous violence against women topics to several thousand federal, state, local, Tribal and campus police agencies through a comprehensive technical assistance delivery system. The National Law Enforcement Leadership Initiative on Violence Against Women is a “next step” in this effort, one that focuses attention and resources on developing the capacity and commitment of law enforcement executives to address crimes of violence against women.
