The film exposes the meaningful, long-term commitments made in the aftermath of the tragedy to change the culture of a town and make it a safe place for everyone. A crucial part of the story was the need for local law enforcement to initiate a positive working relationship with the immigrant population and to collaborate with community partners. The project spawned the Not In Our Town network, demonstrating how to use film to promote civic participation and empower individuals to create positive change in their own communities.
