CPL and Performance Specifications
The IACP publishes a CPL for enforcement-technology equipment. The device models that appear on the CPL have been tested and found to be in compliance with IACP's performance specifications that were in effect when the device model was first placed on the CPL. IACP recommends that law-enforcement agencies use this CPL as one of its criteria when purchasing enforcement-technology equipment.

History
In 1976 the IACP passed a resolution that called for federal government concern and involvement in the development of health, safety, and performance standards for speed-measuring devices, to include the testing and publication of the results. In response to law enforcement’s needs, NHTSA entered into an interagency agreement and began the development of testing protocols and performance standards for police radar devices. Learn more…

Disclaimer: The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) publishes a Conforming Product List (CPL) for enforcement-technology equipment. This equipment is intended for use in highway-safety programs. Device models that appear on the CPL have been tested and found to be in compliance with IACP's performance specifications that were in effect when the device model was first placed on the CPL. These performance specifications are intended to help ensure these devices are both accurate and reliable when properly operated and maintained. IACP recommends that law-enforcement agencies use this CPL as one of its criteria when purchasing enforcement-technology equipment. It is important to note that these agencies must also be aware of any applicable federal, state and local requirements since these requirements are outside the scope of IACP's performance specifications.
