Search

The N-DEx portal is a simple, easy to use tool, which allows users to search records from local, state, tribal, and federal criminal justice systems. The search screens through hundreds of millions of records in seconds. N-DEx give access to free, immediate, real time information that is taken from records that extends across the entire criminal justice system. Thousands of law enforcement and correctional agencies have shared data that includes incident and case report information; arrest, booking, incarceration data; mug-shot and booking photos; field contact and interview records; and supervised release, probation, and parole data. Agencies have the options to provide their users with direct access to N-DEx through a desktop icon for easy access.

Connect the Dots

N-DEx tools discover relationships and connections between people, events, properties, and locations. These connections are derived from data within the system records such as incident reports, case records, arrest reports, booking information, incarceration data, and probation and parole data that has been shared by contributing enforcement and correction agencies. N-DEx will allow users to visualize links between records and information to enhance their investigations and cases. Users can create subscriptions based on their past searches and N-DEx will notify when other users are searching for information on cases with similarities; identifying new links and relationships until the user turns the notifications off.

Search and Collaborate

N-DEx provides a secure, real-time platform to collaborate on cases and share data, records, and information. If connections between cases are made, this platform can be used to immediately send new information to other users and agencies. Users can send and receive reports, review new information, coordinate investigations, and set up meetings between agencies. This tool allows investigators to connect across geographical and jurisdictional separations. N-DEx not only identifies related cases, but allows users to connect immediately.

Analyze

N-DEx has analytical tools that graphically illustrate investigations, geographically depict crime trends and occurrences, and visualize connections between crimes. Filters in these tools allow users to limit searches and pin point information relevant to their cases. Users can view hot spots and identify areas with the highest crime rates. N-DEx can analyze based off crime characteristics, criminal involvement, geographical location, time and date of occurrences, and more.

What is N-DEx?

The National Data Exchange Program (N-DEx) is the first and only national investigative tool to exchange criminal incident data across local, county, state, tribal and federal justice systems. It was developed by the Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and was launched in March 2008. N-DEx is an investigative, operational, and tactical resource that enhances public safety. By enhancing law enforcement's ability to share, search, and access information and records, N-DEx helps protect the public; create connections and relationship between people, locations, and crimes; find suspects and identify victims; and bring separated investigations on connected cases together. N-DEx integrates separate law enforcement agencies’ records and systems to create a secure platform that law enforcement can access free and immediate information on cases in a real-time manner.

What N-DEx Does

N-DEx is a free and secure system that allows for instant, relevant information. N-DEx provides law enforcement with the ability to share, search, link, and analyze information, records, and reports without having jurisdictional or geographical limitations. The system integrates hundreds of millions of records from thousands of contributing agencies located across the nation, while allowing the agencies to maintain ownership and control of any data shared. Using the tools and features of N-DEx, law enforcement can discover and visualize relationships between people, locations, and events that may not have been discovered before connecting investigators from separate agencies and enhances their investigative powers.
