Bart Branyon
Bart is a retired Sergeant from the Olathe, KS Police Department. He served that agency for 20 years, 18 of those were with the Tactical Support Unit. Bart served as a SWAT officer, sniper, team supervisor and tactical operations center commander during that period.
Bart is a certified instructor in:
- Noise flash diversionary devices
- Less-than-Lethal munitions systems
- SAGE munitions
- Chemical agents
- TASER
- Civil Disorder Management
- US Department of Justice International Police Instructor
- USMC certified instructor in Soviet/Iraqi weapons systems and the Glock pistol
Bart is a US Department of Defense subject matter expert in counter-IED operations. He has served in both a training and operational capacity in Iraq (three years), Pakistan, Bahrain and Jordan.
Bart was a recipient of:
- 1994 Kansas City Metro Tactical Officers Association “Tactical Officer of the Year”.
- 2005 National Tactical Officers Association Hostage Rescue Award.
- Kansas Peace Officers Association Medal of Valor (x2).
- Kansas City Metro Chiefs of Police Medal of Valor (x3).
- Olathe Police Department Medal of Valor (x3).
- OPD Life-Saving Award.
- OPD 2005 Officer of the Year Award.
- US Department of the Army Commanders Award for Civilian Service. Presented March 2010 by the 4th Brigade Combat Team (1st Armored Division) Commander, Colonel P. Newell.
- US Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service Award. Presented Aug. 2010 by 1st Division Commander, Major General V. Brooks.
Bart currently serves as a SWAT instructor for the Kansas City Metro Tactical Officers Association, National Tactical Officers Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Mid-America Regional Council, US Department of Justice and the US Department of State.
