1 in 8 U.S. residents (age 16 years and older) requested assistance from police at least once in 2011.
Approximately 85% of persons who requested assistance were satisfied with police’s response. This is almost 10% higher than the national level of customer satisfaction which is 75.6%.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics cites police officer as having one of the highest rates of injuries and illnesses of all occupations. This is due to the high level of risk/danger and stress.
In 2014, 15 officers nationwide were killed in ambush assaults, matching 2012 for the highest total since 1995.
Each year, approximately 50,000 law enforcement officers are assaulted, resulting in more than 14,000 officers being injured.
