Awardee of the IACP Foundation / Kellogg School of Management Women's Senior Leadership Program Scholarship
Commander Kristen Ziman coordinates the delivery of police service to the city of Aurora, which encompasses Kane, DuPage, Kendall and Will Counties. Born and raised in Aurora, Commander Ziman graduated from West Aurora High School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management from Aurora University and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management from Boston University.
Commander Ziman began her career in 1991 as a Police Cadet and became a Police Officer in 1994. As an officer, she worked in Patrol, Community Policing, Field Training, and as an investigator in the Domestic Violence Reduction Unit. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and supervised the patrol division. She was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008 where she worked as the Midnight Shift Watch Commander and Field Training Coordinator.
Prior to her promotion to Commander in June of 2010, she served as the Administrative Services Lieutenant overseeing the budget process. Commander Ziman is a member of the Employee Review Board. She also writes a law enforcement-related column in the Aurora Beacon-News, a publication of the Chicago Sun Times.

Background
The Kellogg School of Management’s Center for Executive Women (along with the Allstate Foundation) have developed the Women’s Senior Leadership Program to help talented women break through barriers and become highly effective leaders.
The Foundation is proud to partner with Northwestern University and the Kellogg School of Management to provide ONE scholarship to a female law enforcement executive (or senior command staff) to attend this extraordinary training. This training program is valued at over $21,000.00 and is gratefully acknowledged by the IACP Foundation.
The university will provide lodging and a partial meal plan.
Participants will learn how to…
• Capitalize on strengths and create advancement opportunities through a personal action plan
• Develop a CEO’s strategic outlook
• Determine how to better assess and motivate the performance of subordinates
• Build strategies to better manage the political dynamics of the organization
• Lead change and promote innovation through an organization
• Utilize networks to gain important information
The Kellogg Center for Executive Women will help women circumvent barriers and take a confident stride toward the highest level of corporate leadership with this women's leadership program.
Led by exceptional Kellogg faculty and corporate experts, this executive education program will offer practical guidance and multiple perspectives on leadership development for women.
Individual progress will be emphasized with personalized feedback sessions and a unique leadership assessment tool designed to help you identify and leverage your areas of greatest strength.
The structure of the program, four three-day sessions over twelve months, allows you to build relationships, learn and test new ideas, and receive feedback from the faculty and your peers.
