History & Leadership
The Foundation was created in 1990 to add a new dimension to the IACP’s support of professional policing. While it is a separate 501 (c) 3 organization, the foundation complements the mission, goals and objectives of the IACP and serves as an additional means to sponsor research, create programs, offer opportunities for professional development, and provide scholarships for dependant family members of officers fallen or permanently disabled in the line of duty.
The Foundation is governed by a board of directors comprised of twenty-two members, twelve sworn representatives of law enforcement and ten representatives of the private sector who have demonstrated a vested interest in the concerns of professional policing.
The board meets approximately four times a year to review programs, policies and fundraising efforts, but they are an extremely active and engaged group that stays in touch year-round to ensure continued forward motion for the foundation.
The Foundation currently operates with one full time staff person, foundation director Patricia (Petey) Casstevens, who carries out daily activities and acts on behalf of the board in matters of fundraising as well as marketing, communication, and program cultivation and implementation.
